Off-peak efficiency
As well as helping to attract new business to the region’s economy, it’s also important to make sure that our resources are used efficiently. We need to keep things in balance, both to protect our environment from harmful overconsumption, and to make sure there’s always enough supply of water and electricity to service all of our customers.
With this in mind, when demand for electricity is at its highest during daylight hours in summer, large industrial operators – with over 1 MW connected load – are charged at a higher-cost, peak tariff. This encourages greater demand during night hours and helps to keep things flowing throughout the daytime.
